About Epitalon

Epitalon (also known as Epithalon) is a four-amino-acid peptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. Research investigates its influence on pineal gland performance, natural melatonin rhythms, and telomerase enzyme activity—a key marker in cellular aging models. Scientists examine Epitalon's role in sleep-wake cycle optimization, healthy cellular turnover, and biological longevity pathways. Due to its compact structure and exceptional stability, Epitalon has become a cornerstone peptide in aging research, with studies exploring how it may support the body's natural regenerative processes and maintain youthful cellular function over time.

FAQs

What is Epitalon peptide?
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the amino acid sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly and a molecular formula of C14H22N4O9. It was synthesized based on the amino acid composition of Epithalamin, a bovine pineal gland extract, and was later confirmed to be present in pineal gland polypeptide complex solution via liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry in 2017. The peptide has been studied for over 25 years, primarily at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology under the direction of Professor Vladimir Khavinson.
Epitalon is studied for its effects on telomerase activity and telomere length in somatic cells. A study published in the Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine reported that Epitalon induced telomerase activity and telomere elongation averaging 33.3% in human fibroblast cell cultures. Additional research areas include melatonin secretion restoration in aged primate models, antioxidant enzyme activity in aging rats, and suppression of spontaneous tumor development in C3H/He mice.
Research published in Biogerontology in 2025 showed that Epitalon increases telomere length in both normal and cancer cell lines. In normal fibroblast and epithelial cells, Epitalon upregulated hTERT mRNA expression and telomerase enzyme activity in a dose-dependent manner. In cancer cell lines, telomere elongation occurred through activation of the Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres pathway. Earlier work demonstrated that Epitalon-treated fibroblasts surpassed the Hayflick limit, extending proliferative capacity from the 34th passage beyond normal termination.
Studies in aged monkeys and humans report that Epitalon restores melatonin secretion by the pineal gland. Research by Goncharova, Khavinson, and Lapin published in Neuroendocrinology Letters showed that Epitalon administration normalized evening melatonin levels in senescent monkeys while also reducing cortisol levels. This line of investigation focuses on the peptide's interaction with the pineal gland's neuroendocrine regulation of circadian rhythms.
Limitless Peptides sells Epitalon as a lyophilized powder in a sealed 3mL glass ampule. The product is Janoshik verified for identity, potency, and purity. Epitalon is sold for research use only and is not approved for human consumption. The product page includes both the manufacturer's certificate of analysis and a link to the independent Janoshik verification report.
